Parks & Trails

It’s easy to enjoy native wildlife in any of greater Sarasota County’s many parks. Whether you love bird watching, alligator observing, hiking, biking or water sports, there are over 120 parks and trails in Sarasota County encompassing over 3,000 acres.

One favorite is the Legacy Trail, an ever-expanding recreational walking and biking trail that stretches over ten miles. A regional backbone of recreational and nature-based activity, the trail connects communities across Sarasota County and stretches into neighboring Charlotte County.

Right off the Legacy Trail is Venice Area Beautification Inc’s Urban Forest. Founded in 2018, the 2 mile long, man-made forest will be home to thousands of trees and species of animals, including migrating birds. Watch as the 5 year project comes to life and enjoy the forest right in the heart of Venice.

Myakka State Park’s 60 square miles make it one of the largest parks in the state offering plenty of room to bike, kayak and hike.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a respected leader in the study and conservation of plants. The urban bay-front oasis showcases a living collection of rare and beautiful tropical plants.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is an independent marine research institution that’s a popular family destination. Home of world-class marine scientists, the laboratory is committed to the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans.

Considered a health spa, Warm Mineral Springs maintains 85 degrees year-round and contains an estimated 51 minerals – one of the highest mineral content of any natural spring in the United States. Thousands each year visit the springs for its many health benefits.
