Dr. Pappas Inducted Into Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Pappas, president of Manatee Community College, for her recent induction into the Hall of Fame at the Community Video Archives luncheon. This organization recognizes individuals who make a significant contribution to the community by making a video biography of their life.
Abel Band Attorneys Volunteering in the Community
Continuing with its tradition of commitment to community and excellence in legal services, several members of Abel Band, Chartered have been honored with board appointments and other distinctions.
Benjamin R. Hanan, of Sarasota, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. Mr. Hanan is a Shareholder with Abel Band, Chartered and is also a certified public accountant. He focuses his law practice on business counseling and transactions as well as estate planning. Mr. Hanan is a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association, The Florida Bar and The American Bar Association and is a graduate of Leadership Sarasota County. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation, chairperson of IMPACT, and as legal counsel to other private and community nonprofit organizations.
William P. Cox, of Sarasota, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Sarasota Manatee Manufacturers Association (SAMA), whose mission is to improve the manufacturing environment in Sarasota & Manatee Counties. SAMA is comprised of local manufacturing companies that engage in industrial operations, producing products for international, national, and local distribution. SAMA provides a voice for manufacturers at the local, state, and federal levels, and assists manufacturers with the regulatory requirements set forth for safety, environmental and human resource operations. Mr. Cox is an Associate with the Firm’s Public Utility Regulation & Litigation, Project Development, and Real Estate Practice Groups and focuses on land use, telecommunications, and residential and commercial development.
Adria Maria Jensen, of Bradenton, an Associate with the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group at Abel Band, Chartered has been elected to the Board of Directors for Legal Aid of Manasota, Inc., which is administered by The Florida Bar Foundation to provide pro-bono legal services within Sarasota and Manatee counties. The organization maintains staff attorneys and enlists the assistance of local attorneys to provide pro-bono services as well. Ms. Jensen focuses her practice on business litigation and is fluent in Spanish.
Paul K. Bachman, of Sarasota, has joined the Business Climate Work Committee of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. As a member of the committee, Mr. Bachman works to accomplish the Committee’s goals of developing a one-stop business resource center and forging alliances with county public officials. Mr. Bachman is a member of the Firm’s Business & Corporate Counseling and Personal Services & Planning practice groups. He focuses his practice on business counseling and transactions, estate planning, and tax.
Douglas A. Cherry, of Sarasota, is currently appearing as a guest on the local Education Channel television network program Law in Sarasota. Mr. Cherry, who is Board Certified in Intellectual Property Law, discusses his Intellectual Property and Technology Law practice and his board certification from The Florida Bar. The 30-minute program, hosted by Adam Trebugge, is featured several times per day through May 18 on Channel 20 in Sarasota County.
