Is Your Boss the Best?
Nominate your boss by Feb. 4 for the Biz941 “Best Bosses” feature
If you work for a great boss, it’s time to pay tribute. This isBiz941's second annual “Best Bosses” competition and one of their favorite projects. All you need to do is tell them—in as much detail as possible—why your boss should make the cut. The more examples and stories you can give them about how your boss makes the workplace rewarding, challenging and fun, the more they have to work with. Winners will be announced in our May 2008 feature, “Best Bosses,” and honored—along with the employees who nominated them—at a celebration this spring.

Insignia Bank Employees Brighten the Holidays for Local Families
Thanks to the generosity of Insignia Bank employees, several local families had a brighter holiday season. The bank’s employees overwhelmingly elected to spend their holiday gift fund to adopt several local needy families. At a holiday tree-trimming party, the employees and employee family members divided into teams and set about shopping and wrapping gifts for each “adopted” family member.
“Insignia Bank’s employees really are a very special group of individuals,” said Charles G. Brown III, Chairman and CEO of Insignia Bank. “In addition to being talented financial professionals, they all passionately believe that an important part of a community bank’s mission is to give back as much as possible to the communities in which we live, work and raise our families.”
Insignia Bank, a new local community bank that opened last year, continues to take the “community” part of their “community bank” name literally. Last year, several hundred lucky diners at the First Watch Restaurant in Lakewood Ranch discovered a pleasant surprise on their guest checks - their morning beverages were all provided compliments of Insignia Bank. This unannounced “random act of kindness” was designed by Insignia Bank to increase awareness of their first branch location. The branch office officially opened for business at 6145 Exchange Way in the Lakewood Ranch community in August.
Insignia Bank’s main office is located at 333 North Orange Avenue at the corner of Fruitville Road and North Orange Avenue in Sarasota, FL. A branch office is located at 6145 Exchange Way in Lakewood Ranch. Its primary lines of business include consumer and commercial deposit services, commercial real estate lending, residential and commercial mortgages, and investment banking. www.insigniabank.com
DooleyMack Staff Contest Benefited All Faiths Food Bank
DooleyMack Constructors challenged their departments to a “green building” holiday decorating competition. Seed money of $100 was given to each department from Senior Management to kick off the competition. Only renewable, sustainable and natural materials were accepted. The LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) theme is in alignment with DooleyMack Constructors commitment to green and sustainable design strategies and practices. Entries were judged December 21, by local developer, Peter Woodman and architect, Michael Carlson.

Melissa McBride, and Bruce Livingston of DooleyMack Constructors deliver more than $3,000 of donated food to All Faiths Food Bank. An additional
cash donation of $609 was collected from DooleyMack employees.
The grand prize winner was the Pre-Construction department, for the “Most Socially Conscious” green theme. This theme was selected due to the increased unemployment in our area, with the construction industry being highly impacted. Taking the $100 in seed money employees grew it to a total of $770. $670 was spent to purchase food and arranged as a “food tree”. The food was donated to the All Faith’s Food Bank, along with the original $100 in seed money. Based on the food bank’s calculations, “food tree” equated to 859 lbs of food and had a value to the food bank of $3,159 and would provide 1,481 meals for the needy this holiday season and beyond. Getting into the spirit of the theme, an additional $509 was contributed by DooleyMack employees, making the grand total donation $1279. Additionally, the department displayed a 4 foot Christmas Tree made from scrap aluminum, which was constructed and donated to DooleyMack by Mullett’s Aluminum.
