Summit for Environmental Action Seeking Nominees
The Summit for Environmental Action is seeking nominees for participation in a community action oriented event that will be held February 29, 2008, at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. Planners of this summit are extending an invitation to interested parties to nominate someone for participation in the workshop; self nominations are encouraged.

Attendees will work together to identify actions that can effect positive outcomes for the natural environment. The Summit grew out of the natural environment indicators for the Community Report Card developed by SCOPE (Sarasota County Openly Plans for Excellence). SCOPE’s annual Community Report Card includes four categories of indicators: Natural, Built, Economic and Social.

Discussion will focus on four environmental issues that provide an opportunity for measurable and do-able improvements in our area. The issues selected are: Florida-friendly landscaping, water supply issues, living locally and energy use.  More details on these issues to follow in coming weeks.

Nominees selected for participation will be those who are likely to become catalysts for community action to implement the changes endorsed by the summit.  The committee will seek a balanced group of participants who represent diverse community groups, including: business, municipal, education, faith-based, environmental, and neighborhood as well as civic groups.

To have your name or organization considered for participation in the Summit for Environmental Action, fill out the nominee form available on the SCOPE website or call (941) 365-8751.
