EDC Invites Public to Annual Meeting on September 21

The Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County (EDC) invites the public to the organization’s Annual Meeting on September 21, 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency, Sarasota, 1000 Boulevard of the Arts. Dale Brill, president of the Florida Chamber Foundation with extensive experience in the state’s economic development arena, will be the keynote speaker. The cost is $65 for individuals. The EDC also will present two EDC Legacy Awards at the event. In addition, Mark Huey, EDC president and chief executive officer, will provide insights into the EDC, the private organization leading the community’s drive toward a more prosperous, sustainable economy.

As president of the Florida Chamber Foundation since 2010, Dale Brill works with state business leaders to secure Florida’s economic future. The foundation was instrumental in developing the Six Pillars, the first long-term strategic plan for the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Previously, Brill served as director of the Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade & Economic Development. Brill’s thought-provoking views will challenge the community to ensure that Sarasota County is aimed toward success in the new economy.

The EDC Legacy Awards are The John J. Cox Community Partner of the Year Award, created in honor of John J. Cox of Halfacre Construction Co., to recognize a non-profit organization that contributes to economic development by improving the area's quality of life; and the Clyde Nixon Business Leadership Award, sponsored by Sun Hydraulics Corp., which is given to an individual who exhibits outstanding values and business leadership.
